Buying the Year’s Lows

buying the years low 2 17 10

Color-Ratio of Yearly low/ Current Price – Real Time Trading Near the yearly low is close to 1

Sort-Ratio of Yearly low/Current Price- Real Time Trading Near the yearly low is close to the lower left hand side

Height-ATM Next Term Put Actual Price of the option to filter out non-option issues.

Green issues in the lower left indicate stocks trading within 10% of the yearly low right now. The stocks on the very left corner are closest to the lows. Red Stocks in the upper right are farther from the yearly lows.   The height  of each equity is the ATM Put price in the Next Term (2nd Month) and it is used to estimate the entry point (Next Term ATM Put – Strike Price) if the put is sold to initiate a long position in the stock.  The taller the Equity, the higher premium of the ATM Next (2nd month) Term Put.

For investors interested in finding stocks trading at or near the bottom of the year, look at the green stocks in the absolute lower left hand corner of each sector.  Look for sectors with lots of green issues relative to the market to find issues near the market bottom prices.  With the market hysteria cooling, many non-bank issues are still trading close to those lows (look at NDAQ).

Net Income Surprises with 1 Month Total Return

Net Income Surprise

In this close up, looking for an oversold area relative to recent earnings, most of the Chemicals Sub Group in the Russell 2000 have acted conversely (negative 1 month returns) to generally very positive earnings surprises.

This is interesting on a day when TRA (Terra Industries, Inc) is the subject of a buyout. The downside run in this Sub Group looks to be coming to an end.
